Ovano inspired self-build

For some time, we've been needing a solution for sleeping, storage and carrying bikes. Having taken inspiration from the likes of Ovano and other great self-builds I've seen on here, I went ahead and built my own, tailored to our needs. It's built from 18mm phenolic ply and uses heavy duty drawer runners and stainless fixings.

I built the bed dimensions around the Van King mattress that we already had, it's very comfortable and folds in to 3. I made a mini bulkhead that holds the folded bed in place at the back of the van.

The bike fork-clamp bar is removable and the fork mounts are staggered to allow transport of two mountain bikes without needing to turn the handlebars.

We already had an Ovano table, and I've made a place to store it just inside the side door, to the right.

As this was the first build, I essentially built it inside the van, so that I could check critical measurements at each stage. Having done this, and now having measurements, I would change a few things to improve fit and finish slightly.

Anyway, I hope this inspires others that may be contemplating similar.

Please ignore the contents of the drawers in the pics, they're 'in build' photos and I'll post some more photos when we get out over-night.

I'm now selling the Van King bed frame on here.

Thanks for looking, and please be kind with your comments 😆

Probably about 40 hours in total, but that included working things out and making jigs to fit the hinges flush with the surface.
