Day 1 of our 3 week 1200 mile road trip with our newly converted van and the engine light came on. Borrowed a code reader in the campsite and got EGR flow insufficient P0401. We have sites booked and several visits planned. The RAC warranty runs out the week we had planned get back at the end of the month.
Van seems to be running fine so is this something we can ignore for 1000 miles and a few weeks or must we get it sorted somewhere on our trip?
What's your advice please?

possibly the EGR valve needs flushing or replacing.

EML engine light on its own normally relates to Emissions standards.

if you have no drivability concerns keep driving.

but book it in for a look over with the RAC people now, but set the date when your back from the trip.

as the EGR work could be £500-1600

...

you will find the EML light will go out as your driving anyway.

then come back on again another time.

OK thanks for the advice. We'll keep going and book it in when we get back! It's just the orange EML at the moment.

Hope the weather improves over the next few weeks...

It was about 13 or 14C I think.
Thank you very much. Asked because I have recorded the fault only above +10C thus been through two winters without a single incident but approx. 30 P0401 incidents during warmer months in 2021, 2022, 2023.

I have been a bit curious since noticing that my van was tagged with a VW's transaction about "thermal window re EGR", a quote below
The thermal window describes the outside temperature-dependent regulation of the exhaust gas recirculation.
A solution is in preparation for the affected vehicles (T6). We will contact you as soon as it is available.

Interesting. Perhaps the EGR works differently or is turned down or off when it's cold.
I was wondering if our issue has been brought on by the fact that the van has been at the converters for 4 months and was started and just left to idle every day. This was probably it's first run of more than half an hour since November.
