I stuck piano hinges on the mine so the tops open. It's incredible what you can stash inside. I've got a mini pan set, plates, cutlery and a mini burner with some emergency food (tinned food like beans and steak chunks, noodles, biccies) in just one side. T'other has a mini electric kettle, cups, tea bags, spare tins of gas and various other bits 'n bobs.
If I ever get stranded somewhere over winter i'm sorted.
