Pop Top Canvas Zip

I wondered if anyone else has done this? I’ve seen some of the roofs where they zip open making the top of the van a massive open space. I wondered if anyone has cut and installed zips on a canvas that hasn’t been originally made to do this? I’ve been looking and the weight of the roof seems to be mainly supported by the frame so with the canvas itself not taking any of that weight, I thought it’d be a nice little upgrade.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas about this and whether they know anyone in Essex/South East?

Unless your canvas is designed to be easily removed then i think your trying for the almost impossible. What roof is it? Does the manufacturer make a scenic canvas, if so it might be a starter but the key is going to be the ability to easily remove the canvas in the first place

Thanks, my thinking is that the frame is taking the weight. I guess you’re thinking is because the zip would have to be machine sewn?

unfortunately I’m not sure the exact manufacturer of the roof - it’s possible kampervanz installed it so maybe I could check with them
