Pop top conversion registered with DVLA

Hi. New to all this. Just about to buy a Kombi that has already had a pop top conversion but not registered with DVLA as being modified. Does it have to?

If you mean registered as a motor caravan, it won’t be. You need to do a lot more to get that classification than just fit a pop top.
If it’s been converted from a van to Kombi, it will be a van with windows. If it is a factory Kombi, it will stay the same on the V5.
Check the classification it’s registered as. This will be important with regard to the speed limits that will apply.

Brilliant, thanks. I did look into it and will only call the DVLA when I get the decals out.
Errr! You might want a read of this

Not sure what you are wanting to achieve by registering with DVLA but they do not need to know about the pop top.

Is it a Kombi converted from a panel van or a factory Kombi? If converted then they will change the body type to ‘van/side windows’. If a factory Kombi it will stay as it is.

If you are attempting to change the body type to a ‘motor caravan’ then, as said, they will not do that as a pop top doesn’t count, it would need to be a fixed high top (plus a load of other things). It’s clearly explained on this DVLA page:
