Pop top removing roof lining first

Might sound like a daft question but I want a pop top installed, the van currently has roof panelling with lights, do I have to remove this before giving it to a dealer to install a pop top? And if so, how do I remove the lights and do I have to disconnect them?

It depends on agreed scope of works

Welcome to the page
As per the other members comments depends personally I didn’t but I got mine to do the top and install my electric items lights heater and solar panel with internal chargers WhatsApp Image 2023-01-12 at 21.49.21.jpegWhatsApp Image 2023-01-12 at 21.49.21 (1).jpeg
They sorted all that out including relocating the lights for new including switches
Whoever does it make sure they or you protect the van from metal bits damaging the rest of the van and internal seats / dash screen ect
Best of luck and welcome again

Welcome!

Yes, the roof panels need to come out. Up to you and the installer who does it.

The lights are held into the hole in the hardboard with clips. I partly pulled the panel out to peek behind to see where the clips are. I cheated and popped them out from the back.

The wires connect via a plug which you can pull out - it is dangling down in @Albel ’s picture.

Agree with your poptop installer what they are going to do with the lights, and if they are installing more. On mine they used screws to hold the side flashings (that the poptop bed will sit on) so I could open it up to do wiring later.

Most important part - ask them how they will deal with swarf. Mine came back covered in it, and I’m still cleaning off rusty specs from every orifice.

Second most important- put photos of your journey on here. I picked up all the tips I needed for my conversion from this forum. Good luck!
