Or even just faffing around in the wagon! Saw the same post - interesting and marks to the guy, but I expect there's a reason no one uses similar! As far as I'm concerned, if a cam strap is good enough for Reimo it's absolutely fine.
Our fixing is rather similar and we find that it is neat and effective. We have no plans to change. The cut-out for our pop-top does not extend over the 'cab' as in the above, but ends approximately where a cab rear bulkhead would be positioned.
I’d like a lock in addition to the straps (not fitted to my austops roof) but the straps do come in handy when lowering as you can bring it down 50% or whatever then go round and check
Aside from the fact they look terrible in the van they can also be adjusted incorrectly, scrape you skin off and from my experience on boats they can fail.

Cant beat a good strap I always have spares as always useful, I personally would always go for straps much more forgiving and literally can get them from anywhere, even if the mounts went on my roof I could Chuck a strap round the roof and into the doors to hold it down lol
The other issue I can see with these catches if incorrectly adjusted the fulcrum point could allow you to damage the roof clamp mounts as they latch by over centreing therefore pulling the roof down more than when they are latched
How is the part attached to the roof attached? I see plastic nut covers.. Do the bolts go all the way through the roof? Or is there metalwork embedded in the roof thickness that the catch bolts into? How much pressure/tension can be put on those bolts before they pull out/through the roof?
Looked at different SCA roofs for my conversion and one of them had a mechanism a bit like that. But my converter wasn’t a fan and said they’re had issues with the mechanism coming undone while driving and the securing bolts snapping. Short version is he very much favoured the roofs with straps. So I bought one with straps!
