Poptops Straps - How tight are yours (and alternatives)

I'm very tempted by these pop top straps as recommended by @AndyNichs:
Ever since I got my van, I've been thinking that there must be a better alternative to the usual long cam straps but have never found it - perhaps until now but read on. The two disadvantages that I can think of with this design are:

Ever since I first got the van, I've worked on the basis that the tighter the straps are locked down the better but I do sometimes worry that I just put too much strain the staples bolted into the van and roof (the latter in particular). How tight do other forum members do their straps up? I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to get enough purchase on the relatively short lengths of the Quickpops to lock them down as tight but just how tight do they need to be?

I tend to leave my current 2.5M long straps in place when the roof got up as they make it very easy to pull the roof back down - I simply stand up, wrap the straps around my wrists and pull down after that they are just rolled up and tucked away in the hatch cover. At just over 6', I find that I don't even need to stand fully upright to do it. I guess it would be easy enough to put a couple of shorter straps on to help and then just tuck them out of the way rather than having to reach up to grab the two handle fixed to the underside of the roof.

Any thoughts?

My poptop has straps and cam buckles when I bought it I was advised to tie the loose end around the straps ie belt and braces i would not trust just a cam buckle

Me to.
For me, that is the issue with the Quickpop solution - it’s still just a cam lock buckle. And it looks to be less substantial than the OEM Reimo ones I have now.

A couple of ideas here Securing a pop top down. Mine are the over centre catches. I find that they shouldn’t be too tight or the back of the roof kicks up a bit. Best use different adjustments to determine the most effective, so long as it won’t ‘let go’.

plus i wouldn't trust that top hook go over a bump and if the roof settled down it could unhook it's self

My Reimo has straps, they are never going to break. I wouldn’t trust anything aluminium or cast when it comes to securing a pop top.
