Subject.pngHi Folks,

Newbie here, who has just taken ownership of a 2018 ex RAC T6. I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to upgrade the existing stereo via firmware/software, or do I install the Road Angel DAB unit that I bought for a previous van? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Personally I would recommend changing out the std headunit, they are pretty useless. Depends on how far you want to go, but a good initial upgrade is to also change out the door speakers for better performing ones that the aftermarket headunit will power. Next steps are getting the door panels sound deadened and adding an amplifier to give the speakers more oomph. So many options out there. As long as it sounds good to your ears that is all that matters.

Depends what you mean by upgrade.

You can keep the firmware up to date but if you want new features then not really.

The next level up (with the navigation) can sometimes have additional features unlocked.

Thanks for your suggestion.

If it’s DAB you want, an aftermarket aerial seems to be what most agree works.
Or stream it via CarPlay / Android Auto. The VAG RCD330+ is a cheap and cheerful replacement that has CarPlay.

Forum trader @Dav-Tec may sell these and / or other OEM units, allowing you to retain PDC, sat-nav in the MFD, etc.
