Rear wiper motor tailgate fault

Hi, new to the forum but have been browsing all the wonderful posts and advice for a while, so handy thanks everyone.

I have a 2017 kombi and has recently gone in for work as the wife hit a stationary lorry and went down the side of our van. As per photos, ouch!

Since back from body shop the rear wiper motor was intermittent and just clicking, I have 11.5v to the live and good resistance on 2 cables to chassis. I thought it was the motor so replaced it and worked when just plugging in but when I actually fitted it was exactly the same as the oem.
I’ve also noticed when it just clicks and doesn’t work my rear hazards flash and the reverse lamp also comes on.

In my head seems like a bad earth or the body shop having replaced rear quarter panel have done something to the cabling?
I’ve check plugs and all seem ok, thinking contact the repair centre and see if it’s anything they have done? Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks Anton

Afternoon.
You say that the 2 cables to the chassis have good resistance. By good, do you mean virtually none?
I would say that it is unlikely to be a bad earth. The additional hazard and reverse light illumination sounds more like a damaged loom where the inner conductor of multiple wires are touching. Considering the work that has been done it does sound suspiciously like the loom has been damaged somewhere.
Are you able to see the inside of the quarter panel that was replaced?
Most of the wiring runs along the edge of the roof then down to the rear light area. Power to the tailgate runs through the rubber boot adjacent to the left hand hinge.
If it is damaged, hopefully it will will be easy to spot in the areas where the old panel was cut off.

Hi, I’ve seen a wiring diagram and need to properly look at it. 2 cables had 0.5ohms to chassis so presumed they were earth because if it was a short the fuse would have blown.
So there is no cables in the lower rear quarter? I thought I saw some on a plug that clips in, I need to check it really but was fine until the repair shop have had it. Cheers for the reply.
