Recessed door pockets in Kombi trim?

Has anyone taken advantage of rear kombi door recess by fitting recessed door pockets, similar to kiravans door store but on both panels and maybe carpet lined panel. Just thinking of storage ideas and dont fancy the price tag of california panels.
On our to do list over christmas as looks like not too much else going to happen.....
