Remove 2nd Row Headrests

How do I permanently remove the 2 headrests?
We don't need them, they get in the way when upright, and they take up too much space when down.

I know what you mean, I have the same seat and I keep them down without issues.
I’m not up on European vehicle safety testing but they might need to be there if the seat was designed with them. They might be called head rests but aren’t they there to reduce whiplash injury?
To remove just push the button in and slide them out.

In terms of design, those California headrests look about the most impractical solution that VW could come up with!
They have at least managed to provide a good view of the bike rack when they are folded down!
