The problem is another car I drive switches to park when you key off.I imagine this would be an unusual fix which probably means it wont be cheap ?
If it was mine and it has no undesired effects not sure i would be too worried about it ?

My problem is when swiveling the seat I have to take the brake off, so if it isn't in park it will roll forward as even in D it isn't in gear.
Fortunately it is just about still in the 3 yr warranty (though I took the extension to 5 years)
Do you still have the old lever illumination? There is a member on here looking for one.It was the microswitch in the shift lever, replaced under warranty.
Took several days, as the shift lever had changed design and the illumination didn't fit so that had to be replaced as well
