Replacement coil spring (T6/T28)

Apologies if this has been asked before (I promise I did search but not 100% sure of the answer).

My 98k 65 plate T6 failed its MOT today due to a broken coil spring. The garage wants to replace it with a genuine VW one (as they said they were having problems finding a decent like for like replacement, or something like that) which is fair enough. Problem is, cost is £162 for one spring!! They said the spring is a yellow band/dot version.

Obviously thinking I could probably get some lowering spring for not much more (although the labour will be more of course). Any recommendations? Need to be more at the budget end if possible, something in the H&R price bracket.

Van has a camper conversion so a bit of weight in the back. Running on 18" alloys and "standard" profile tyres.

Van is currently in their workshop so would need to be able to get parts delivered to them.

Many thanks!

I have a converted T28, broke a rear spring and fitted T30 springs from a delivery mileage van. Converters sometimes remove virtually brand new springs to fit lowering versions. Going to the T30 springs stopped the rear on mine sagging as much.
£99 for both OEM springs.

Don’t do it. Mine (camper with 18” wheels) came with H&R lowering springs with standard shocks and the ride and handling were dreadful. The rear was also too low. I’d recommend sticking with a standard replacement spring or do a proper job with correct springs and shocks to account for the camper conversion. Buy cheap, buy twice.

CRS or Bognor Motors are good places to start.

Sounds like better just sticking with OEM. Should I "upgrade" to T30 springs then? Any problem doing this?

The prices on eBay seem good. Not sure where the garage is getting £162 for one spring. They are decent guys, just thing they are concerned about putting anything on that won't last.
