My Air-Con Retrofit thread
Hi, I have started collecting parts to retrofit air con to my van. Has this been successfully completed by anyone? I see it is commonly done on T5s but only an aftermarket kit is fitted by Alpinair to the T6. Does anyone know of any other parts required or have any wiring diagrams etc...

I have just done this, I am very lucky to have a friend who is very good with VAG cars and vans who helped me. I took the full air con system from a donor van. The front end needs to be removed to run wires to under the battery and fit the condenser, pump etc. The dash needs to be removed to swap out the heater box and add in the additional wiring. Holes need to be made in the bulk head for the condensor pipes and drain. It’s a big job and well worth it but as I say, I’m very lucky that I have a knowledgeable friend to help me.
The hardest part is the wiring so if you have access to wiring diagram then the rest is mechanical pretty much.

Again I am lucky, my friend does not charge me. I help him where ever I can in return.
I bought the heater box, controls, dash loom, pump, pipes and condenser for £300. I had to buy an additional idle pulley as non aircon vans do not have it and also an auxiliary belt. £60.
£40 to have it gassed.
As this was the first time we did not rush, approx 8 hours.

When I first looked into this I was pricing everything up and the cost was around £700. The donor van was accident damaged and I was able to remove everything myself so this helped me to understand what went where.
Regarding the labour, there was two of us so it’s more 16 hours (2x8) really.
If I knew more about the wiring I would liked to have shared how it was done.
