Road Hero Space saver wheel carrier

Hi, just bought a Road Hero space saver wheel for a T6.1. Since lowering the van it's impossible to get the original spare wheel out and the space saver saves weight. Problem is the wheel carrier can't be adjusted to take a thinner wheel. Suppliers suggested packing it out, not very useful!!!. Anyone fitted one, got any ideas.

take it out, give it to a half decent welder/fabricator and modify it
