Rock N Roll Bed Removal

I had a thought that I might remove the rock N roll bed from our van. It occurred to me that I don't need it in the van all the time, I don't carry passengers in the back, just me and the wife, and the space could be used for other things when we're not camping.

The question is, how easy it is to do, and can it be put back in easily and quickly when it IS needed?

Anyone done this?

Each time you want to get it in or out you’ll be underneath the van. If you’re lucky none of the bolts will be behind any heat shrouds otherwise it will be a real pain. Could you consider mounting unwin rails in the van and then either sliding the seat back and forth or use the unwin rails to just bolt and unbolt the bed when not needed

If having to go underneath the van or messing with important components it might perhaps not be worth it, but yes something like unwin rails to make it somewhat modular would be useful, if doing so is safe.

However, It does beg the question that if this was a good idea, why is it not standard to make a van more versatile?

A company called Cambee used to do it for their own beds but they went a few years ago. I guess originally no one was bothered then VW and Reimo came out with their own systems. A few more have come out with similar systems as demand changes, also if it’s on rails or an easy to remove system there’s more expense with getting it M1 tested.
