Does anyone know the difference (apart from the price) of tested v untested beds?
They cant test every bed on the tested ones surely?
Also, a reputable company that sells tested and untested versions.. They aren't selling one good one, and one that will collapse if you sit on it, or fly through your head in an accident.. are they?

This company sells tested & untested beds... I think it's just a simpler cheaper design, 'tested beds' means the design is tested, not every bed they produce.

Tested just means that an example (or a few) of the bed has been tested to meet appropriate standards.
The assumption is that the company makes all beds of that design to the same standard.

So.. I am wondering why I would pay double for a tested bed over one made by the same, professional looking company?

Its mainly for the safety of passengers, if you want a r&r bed but not intending it to have much use as a passenger seat then untested is a good option
If you want to use it as you would use a rear seat in a car then an M1 tested one is a safer bet
I'm in the same boat at minute, making that decision and looking at various options

Because you are going to seat people on it when you drive. You don’t need a tested one if it is just for sleeping. The manufacturer will tell you the difference in the construction.

Hi all. my take on this is....What ever type you buy ( tested or untested )and it has seat belts fitted the temptation is to use it as a seat ...but understand the M1 test is 30mph crash into solid concrete pulling the seat with a 3 ton force...it’s no NCAP test ..so if you intend to use non OEM seats consider the safety of your love one’s
we all make sure we buy the correct load rated tyres....so why not make sure the seats are totally safe ( unless it’s just a bed with no seat belts) Stay Safe

M1 test is just for the belts right? I'm seeing "M1 tested" beds which are bolted through the floor in just 4 places with M10 bolts and small square of metal. 100kg weight of bed will surely rip out the floor in a crash?!

Rib beds have a proper chassis fixing, probably better than OE Volkswagen for strength.

M1 tested should mean that the whole setup is tested: seat, the method of fixing to the van, belts etc.

There should be a required method of install from the supplier. It won't meet the conditions of the certifiaction if it is installed in any other way.
