Rough conversion costs

Hi. I'm new to this and please forgive the following question, which I am sure has been asked a thousand times.

I am on the edge of buying a VW Transporter to convert and I've been offered a 2018 T28 Startline, which looks suitable.

Just so I don't bite off more than I can chew, what are the costs (in really round numbers) of the following basic conversion steps:
  • Pop top
  • Insulation, lining and floor
  • Windows
  • Leisure electrics
  • Kitchen (fridge, cooker units etc)
  • Bed/rear seats
I'm sure there are many things, but I thought the above list would take an ex builders van to somethin I can use.

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum. As John said, search will be your friend. There are many many threads on how and what to fit. As a very rough guide we probably spent about 10k on everything you mention above. The biggest cost will likely be your pop top probably followed by your bed system and furniture depending on what you fit.

We used a lot of the information on the forum and this guide.

Just my 2p worth - but what are the specs of the startline - eg engine BHP and does it have nice things like AC? ( this would be a game changer for me..). I am no expert, but the T28 is I believe a bit marginal in terms of weight load when converted.

I have a 2021 T28 Startline with business pack it came with 110bhp, air con, rear parking sensors, alarm, heated rear screen with wiper, twin passenger seat, footwell lights and side step light, and possibly more as I’m away from our van at the moment.

This can be sorted by having the van up plated. This is a paperwork exercise, with no mods required, that costs £275 from Van Weight Engineering (other suppliers are available at other costs). My T28 now has 3150 max permissible mass. To be honest 2800 was fine but I have absolutely no concern now!

You can get an instant quote from the very nice folk who are @AJCConversions

They will also be at Busfest early next month, with a trade stand to show off what they can do.

Oh, and if you've got a couple of weeks off work sick, you can always plough through the vertiable encyclopedic body of work from @Dellmassive.

Thread 'Dellmassive’s "How I Done It" blogs.' Dellmassive’s "How I Done It" blogs.

Certainly gave me the knowledge and confidence to do parts of the conversion ourselves and more importantly know when to stop and pay someone (who can offer a warranty) to finish/fix it for you.
