Seat layout in kombi

I’m new to the forum and interested in buying a T6.1 SWB kombi With twin sliding doors to be used as an everyday family car / van.

I have set my mind up on the colour and the external upgrade but I have one burning question about the internal seat configuaration.

my plan is for captain seats at the front but to put the 2+1 seat at the back on rails. This gives me options for huge boot space or passenger comfort.

im guessing it’s a hybrid between a caravelle and day van.
Is this possible or am I being crazy.

Hi ....VW don’t make a hybrid seat arrangement.. but a Kombi can be converted the only issue is cost as you can’t use original kombi seats on a rail system so you’d have to buy new seats to fit rails ...Why not buy a Caravelle , you could still have the space by removing seats when not in use..but this all depends if you decide later to convert the van .....or keep as original configuration. It’s a trade off

ps ...have you looked at the Vw Shuttle

The standard Kombi seats have enough leg room for passenger comfort, while having enough room in the boot for bikes. Not sure what you'd gained for the several thousand extra ££'s you'd spend.

+1 for kombi...mine works great for me..but it’s all a trade off...test drive your options before you buy..it’s got to work for you

Thanks for your replies. I like the thought of a kombi to convert to a caravelle or a day van and to give me further options down the line. I have looked at reviews that mentioned it’s harder to convert a caravelle further down the line.

I’m 6ft 6 so that’s my reasoning for seats on rails and to be able to turn the front seats into the cab when I’m out with the family.

it’s the thought of customising to my style is appealing but I’m quickly realising I need lots of £££

Your so right about £££...but get the best basic model that suits your needs and poor old pockets

Standard Kombi seating no good if you want to swivel your front seats. You'd be better with a panel van if you're looking to make so many changes anyway.

I bought a Kombi with twin sliders and then decided the Caravelle floor/seating was more versatile and suited my needs better. It does cost a bit but nowhere near as much as a Caravelle would cost you if you are buying new. As stated above, you could buy a panel van and fit a Caravelle floor/seats to that but then you might want windows etc fitted and you would always have all the Kombi interior parts to sell so i think its six and two threes to be honest. Weigh everything up as carefully as you can, look at as many different configurations as you can and then do what suits your tastes and lifestyle best, good luck with it all

I have a twin slider Kombi with 2+1 and captains chairs. When I swivel the fronts it's cosy but not cramped. I'm 6'3 but the back seat occupants are 3 kids. Gives me loads of room in the back for stuff. Always thought the campervan set up seems a bit rubbish for back seat occupants as they have to sit so far behind, fine if it's on rails though

Thanks for the replies it’s been really useful.

I think I have made up my mind on a White T6.1 DSG, twin sliders with a caravelle upgrade.

Im hoping New Wave Customs can come to my rescue and guide me through the process.

I’m my head T6 hold there value well but does custom upgrades done well strengthen the value. It’s not that important really because I see this as a long term project.

We’ve done quite a few caravelle seat conversions. Our demo is running a six seater - which works really well, plenty of room and multiple seating options.
Have a look on our website for pics
