As per the thread title and the main reason for dithering is the trade off between my perceived VW servicing ambivalence and the keener independent garage (schoolmate) possibly not appealing so much at trade in time.
I've had the van a year and prior to my ownership the service history is a bit of a mystery apart from an oil service just prior to my purchase, either way the oil service sign has just come on so I'd like to get new oil, oil filter and fuel filter sorted. The van has covered just over 40k miles and on a 67 plate so I'm guessing it's a bit early for a cam belt?
I shouldn't get too angsty about the local VW stealership as they sorted out an EGR flush and new pipe under warranty last September and did a free inspection at the same time but I have to admit just sitting in their reception area while waiting to drop off and pick up my camper made my skin crawl a bit with all the showroom types wafting around with their piece of paper or coffee in hand, maybe I'm too working class hero but there must be ten of these toss pots to each workshop mechanic.
