Short term insurance for loan of van

Hi All

We have agreed to loan our T6 camper to our son and his partner for a fortnight's break this summer (possibly including crossing to France). They are in their late 20s and have their own cars and insurance for those.

Does anyone have experience of sorting out insurance for such a purpose. I have tried getting a couple of online quotes for temporary cover and am getting figures around the £200 to £250 mark (although I can't get firm quotes until a month before travel)

I'm wondering if it might be cheaper just to add my son as a named driver on my own annual policy.

Thanks in advance for any guidance

Many of the temporary insurance policies I’ve used won’t cover vans, modified vehicles, vehicles over £35k or use abroad or a random combination of exclusions. Probably easier to just put them on your policy.

Alternatively, have a look at the camper rental sites and see what the deal is there for signing up and ‘renting’ your camper to them. That would include insurance but may have a hefty charge. Clearly any rental charge could just be gifted back!

I've had my how 25yr old son on my policy for the last 2 years. It worked out an extra £200/300 for the year. It's a T6 kombi in a L postcode but he's happy driving it and he pays the extra. You never know, they may want to loan it more often.
