I've got these ones i think from the same company who done the video. They always get stood on to get in the van especially by the wife and grandkids. Plus they don't stick out too much either. I dont really have much bother about cars parking too close because I generally take up 2 parking spaces.!!!
I've just opened my daughters Fiat 500 door which is parked next to my van. Her door clears my side step nicely! Perhaps if I bend them up to about 30 degrees (quite easy) that may help with little low cars! But you may not be able to open the front doors then!
