Hi ,

1st post so hopefully it's in the correct place.

Apologies if its been asked before but I can't see anything regarding the different thickness of Silent Coat sound deadening sheets .

From what I can see most people opt for the 2mm version which is foil backed - the 4mm version may be to heavy according to google ?

So I've been looking at the 3mm version but this appears to be black and not foil backed - would this make a difference ?

And would it be a lot more awkward to get a better fit ?

Thanks.

Butyl tape (silent coat, Dodo, Amazon etc) is indeed rather heavy with a single sheet of 2mm coming in at 0.25kg , meaning 4mm would be around 0.5kg each. But the total mass addition to your vehicle really depends on the level of coverage you go for (I went for say 90% - meaning every inner skin surface i could reach & some back structure - around 60 sheets or 15kg in total) & that is another variable. The aluminum foil commonly used is a reflective heat barrier & helps during installation as it avoids unwanted adhesion to other materials. as you'll get without it.

As such i don't see any value in going 3mm unbacked.
