Looking for a spare bulb kit for my T6 for a upcoming trip to France, done a search but can't find any posts re this.
Found a couple of universal ones, would the list below, from an AA supplied kit be any good?
1 x H7 (499) Bulb
1 x H4 (472) Bulb
1 x H1 (448) Bulb
1 x 501 Capless Bulb 12v 5w
1 x 207 12v 5w Single Pole Bulb
1 x 382 12v 21w Bulb
1 x 380 12v 21/5w Bulb

Thanks

I wonder how complex the expert training is to "fit" a spare bulb kit?!

Hi all,
I'm going to France soon with my 22 reg. T6.1 and just found out that it's apparently a legal requirement to carry spare lightbulbs.
Now, I've got LED lights and the manual says that I cannot replace the LED lights myself.
What bulbs can I replace?
What bulbs do I need to carry?
All help greatly appreciated.

Just buy a set of the cheapest bulbs you can - if you are stopped, you can show them. There is no legal requirement that you can fit them, just that you have them!!!

However if you have a blown blub and your stopped they WILL ask for the spares and will not allow you to drive until you fix it!!!!! Why buy cheap!!!!!!!! just buy a set of blubs for your model and if ever you need them they are there.

Still not opened our spares after 14years driving the car and 3 years driving camper.

Because he has LED lights and there are no bulbs to replace, apart from the front fog lights (which I dounbt anyone would notice a blown bulb if you dont switch them on).

This does beg the question as to what would happen if the LEDs failed, as they cant expect you to carry round 2 complete spare headlights and 2 rear light clusters.

In the factory LED lights (front and rear) the indicators are still bulbs, though - and tbh those are the ones most likely to go!

Fair comment  (should have put my glasses on!!!) No idea now?? as never seen a law about LED´s - will watch with interest to see what the outcome is......

You'll need a full set of tools to swap them on the road. The front bumper needs to come off and headlights out o_O

Of course you do! I shouldn't have expected anything less from VW!

"Oui, monsieur gendarme, let me change this bulb out for you.... might take a moment though..."

I've just had a look at mine. The rears indicators are 100% LED and I am almost as certain the fronts are as well. In the manual it gives a details explanation of how to change all the incandescent bulbs in the H7 units and the rears. The only thing it says about the LED units is ints not possible to change any of these yourself.

On the 6.1 they're all LED, yes - but on the T6 it still uses filament bulbs for all the indicators, and a few others I think.

I know @MrMe has a 6.1 so won't need any bulbs, but for anyone with a T6, even with LED lights front and rear, they still use bulbs.

Here's the owners manual section on the LED headlights

And the LED tail lights

So I'll need to carry some H21W, WY16W and W16W as a minimum, really. Fog lights are H11.

“Oui, Monsieur Flic….” They love it when you attempt the local slang!

Whilst I love LED´s that going to be a pain in the ass when they blow......... VW centre fix at what cost????

Thank you all for this. I can now travel to France reassured that the Gendarmerie will have no reason to demand to see my spare bulbs.
You're all very good eggs. :)

If you wanted to cover yourself just buy the cheapest generic spare bulb kit you can find. You can then point and speak English loudly to any inquisitive gendarmes that you do indeed have spare bulbs. ;) :D
