Speed Limiter

I have a T6.1 2022 highline, previously I had a 2014 Golf the steering wheel & buttons look the same. On the Golf I pressed 2 buttons to activate the speed limit, on the T6.1 I'm pressing 4 buttons. Is it me or is there a easier way to do it.

Does anybody use their speed limiter as most posts under the search function seem to be about removing this function?

Im trying to get to grips with mine after receiving a course last year and atm with Sizewell almost going full steam ahead the cameras seem to be everywhere on our roads with temporary limits being put in place.

I've found the default function on the MFD is ACC so everytime i hop into the van i have to go through the assist options and choose Speed Limiter...bit of a faff.

Is there any way to change the default assist option?

cheers

I thought Speed Limiter only beeps when you go above the speed limit. At least it did on mine (22 plate). Can't remember how I got to it now though as it seemed it was more than 4 presses.
Probably better off using ACC as that will limit your speed.

This^^^^^^^ if you have ACC, why bother with the limiter??

Have both on my MY21 6.1 Caravelle.

The limiter does actively try and limit your speed within reason but will let you override if you need to if you push the throttle like you would for kick down.

If you're a person that doesn't like the feeling of ACC driving I can see why the Limiter would be attractive. The one big difference is ACC will brake to hold your speed on a slope, the limiter only has throttle authority not brake so will happily let you brake the speed limit set down hill, which if I recall is when it chimes to alert you.

I did try it out but as you've found it's a faff to enable and the not braking on slopes aspect means I prefer ACC anyway to hold an accurate speed in those situations.

Did you have sign recognition as that's the (optional) behaviour of that system on mine, you can set it to chime if you break the recognised limit or just above it or not at all.

Yes understood all that from the manual thank you. I do not have sign recognition.....incidently, does this recognise temporary signs?

I think the ACC is fantastic but as the van has a limiter I am keen to utilise this feature if it can be accessed easily like on many other vehicles where its only a few buttons to press. Its not a massive issue in the grand scheme of things but just one of those little niggles.
Ill ask at the stealer when its next in for a service in a few weeks time...like they know everything don't they?!?!:slow rofl:

I've never found a way to do it, and as I say the limiter won't hold your speed on a slope, ACC will, it's only a throttle limiter.

I agree it does seem a bit of a feature with little use. For the same lots of cameras on an unfamiliar route use as you I've given up and ignore it.

The sign recognition is pretty good TBF it's not often it's wrong footed. It's fine with most temporary signs that looks like normal round signs, it won't recognise signs that just say it in text such as "site speed limit 20mph"

Does it? Maybe i'm being thick...if you set ACC to 30mph it will not let you go over this speed using the accelerator? (Igonre the kickdown feature on the limiter setting)

does this recognise temporary signs?
A couple of months back, I was driving a borrowed [rather posh] Skoda Octavia VRS and that had sign recognition.

Driving along on a derestricted road at 60mph, the car suddenly and harshly braked. Glancing down at the dash, a 20mph road sign flashed-up and, yes, I was now doing 20mph. I was somewhat discombobulated, but mainly relieved that there was no traffic behind, as no-one could have anticipated such harsh braking, including me - it certainly got the adrenalin going!!

Anyway, it seems the system had detected a 20mph sign at the entrance to a small lane branching off to the left at an acute angle (i.e. the speed signs were, more or less, oriented towards the main road).

So, to answer your question, I don't know if it would recognise a temporary sign (suspect it would), but it does/can detect signs that it shouldn't!!

You can accelerate over the set speed, but without your intervention, it won't exceed the set speed.

I found ACC very useful on my recent trips to/around Wales - it's much more disciplined at sticking to 20 than I am!
