Spring Upgrade - Shocks too?

Hi All.
New to group and VW T6 SWB

I have searched but have a specific question.

If I want to upgrade a T28 to T30 spring on the rear of my van, do I also need to do the rear shocks ? And if I do the rear do I need to do the front also ?

This is to give us a slight uplift as mindful of payload when converted giving us circa 500kg.

I’m almost certain you can update the standard springs without changing the shocks. The spring length still matches the damper stroke.
There’s been plenty of posts where people update the rears to T32 springs to compensate for the weight of a conversion.
Speak to Steve at CRS and see if he has any T32 take-offs that he can supply to you at a reasonable price.

What I found out today from VW is that the springs and shocks from the t28 are exactly the same serial number parts as those in the T30!
I was thinking of upgrading the the T30 but there does not seem to be any point. Im very confused over this

That's not true, there are different spring configurations depending on the weight of the vehicle which is dependant on options and whether it's a van, kombi, caravelle etc

That said a T28 to T30 change would be largely pointless anyway

I can appreciate that someone stated my last entry was incorrect, but I tried two vw dealerships, and my T28 and a 2.5 t30 both had the same serial numbers for parts. The chap also checked his reg number which is a t30 and that was also the same. He did say that many of the models do have different parts depending on their specific models

I guess the difference between a T28 and T30 is an extra 200kg payload? If so they need to allow probably just over 100kg extra rating per spring for a T30 vs what the T28 would require. In a commercial vehicle that’s sold in big numbers is the slight difference in winding really worth it between the two? I imagine cost to VW would be the same per unit in which case they may have made a decision to use the same springs (rated for the T30 payload).
Just hypothesising.

I have a T28 full camper conversion that rides on stock springs and it doesn’t sag. Weight on the public weigh bridge with full tanks was 2260 kg IIRC.

What the dealer didn't tell you or know is that it could just be a fluke that the two vans have the same rear springs if he genuinely used the reg/VIN lookup....most of the time they don't know what they're talking about.

There is often a part number for a group of springs but those springs will all have different coloured markings on them that refer to the spring rate/weight rating, anyway here's an example for a 2018 panel van rear springs from the horse's mouth so to speak (this is less than half the parts and that's just one page of many). The PR codes to the right equate to specific equipment/options
