Sterling BB1230 not powering

Hi,

I've just realised the Sterling BB1320 battery charger in my van is not powered up. Does anyone have any troubleshooting steps I can follow? Which fuses to check etc? I am a complete noob when it comes to this.

Picture of the power unit and battery charger attached.

The bb1320 will charge the leisure battery from the van battery when the engine is running and a certain output voltage is reached - put van blower to setting 2 to increase the alternator output. You should see some LEDs on the bb1320 then. There should be a large fuse between the van battery and the bb1320. Mine is near the van battery and about 30A from memory.
The EC155 is used on mains hookup to provide 12v to the leisure equipment and will have fuses for each circuit. It will also charge the leisure battery.

Post some pics of the engine bay starter battery.

There will be a fuse up there to check.

Also some pics of your leisure battery.. there will be fuses there as well.

You need a multimeter to test the voltages at the dc-dc charger.

looks like its been installed with mains cable? - 3core flex?

which is not suitable.

and the cable gauge looks to small.?

what size Sterling is it in Amps? 10/20/30/40?

it looks like its installed at the rear wheel arch - so 5-6m away from battery,

so you should have at lease 16mm2-25mm2 cable (see page 13)

id take that to shop to be looked at? - you might need it recabled.

i certainly wouldn't be happy with that.

though id imaging the initial problem is a blown fuse caused by excessive current, caused by voltage drop over the incorrect cable for a DC-DC charger.

.

The conversion was done by Platinum Wave Campers in 2021 though I am the second owner since it was done. I called them about the issue and they ensured me the wiring is correct.

This is the chart for my unit, 10mm2 cable which looks right.

I'll check the fuse by the starter battery, that's the only one I am yet to check.

So you have a 30 amp DC DC charger.?

And you have the charger fitted in the rear of the van? Which is about six meters of cable away from the starter battery?

The chart shows 25 mm squared cable upwards.

York cable looks like 1.5mm? or 2.5mm? mains cable?

Take a few pictures of your cable close-up there will be a cable marking on it.

Also send Stirling a email with these pictures and ask them for confirmation, I'm sure they will say this is incorrect.

Those quick connect battery connections look a bit if a as well for our 30 amp charger. I would have used solid battery terminals.
