Does anybody know why my status says that I’m a new member after 18 months?

It's number of posts not time

Go into your profile and in the personal detaisl tab there is box called custom title it can be changed there to anything you like

On a similar subject, i've always wondered what it means by 'Points' @Loz
If you click on the Members tab, it comes up with 'Notable Members' (which only really confirms I have too much time on my hands, or spend too much time in here if you look through the top posters etc) but what does it mean by Points?

Its a trophy system based on activity achievement..

Has the option gone for custom title? Doesn't seem to be available to me.

Click on your name, top right of screen, select personal details. You can change it there.
