Sun visor reupholster

Hi, iv watched vids on YouTube about retriming sun visor. Has anyone attempted splitting, are they all made the same way. (Butterfly opening)

Wow, surprised no one has attempted it, And also that there is not many posts about re upholstering transporter sun visors, so many have changed headlining, ok looks like iv got to try find a scrap transporter sun visor and surgically investigate…

I got quoted £40 each but that was with me supplying the material and the mirrors would be covered +p&p both ways.

that’s pretty pricey and to loose mirrors for the cost is a bit naughty.. I’m so tempted to rip into one.. lol. But knowing Vw there completely different to any other…

We covered ours in alcantara, the seam on ours was ‘welded’, didn’t fancy taking a knife to them to find out.

We also covered the mirrors, mainly because I’d need to paint the plastic to match and I don’t think I’d get a finish I’d have been happy with.

That’s pretty impressive.. how did you get it so neat on edges. I’d be very happy with that. Nice job…

Traced the visor onto the fabric, Mrs then had to hand sew them as her sewing machine hated the foam backed alcantara.

Sew them inside out so the seam was on the inside then fit them over the visor. The fabric has some stretch so we made them slightly smaller for a tight fit. Then she did the last bit with some fancy hidden seam sewing thingy…she did good!
