T32 and Minimum Wheel Size

I bought some genuine VW 16” wheels and tyres (brand new with delivery miles only) for my 2016 T32 LWB T6 as a cheaper alternative to four new tyres and to give me the opportunity to get my aftermarket alloys refurbished.

The wheels came off a new van, not sure what.

They don’t fit. The front brake callipers foul the wheels.

Anyone know what steels will fit? Amarok or Crafter wheels? The eBay seller has agreed to refund them or exchange them but I need to know what I’m asking for.

Thanks!

Anything 17” and above will fit, so the 17” GP steel wheels or the 18” Amarok steel wheels.

Some vans have the larger 340mm discs on the front and will only take a 17” and above.
You may find some used Devonports at a reasonable price and these are easy to resell if you don’t plan on keeping them.

There’s a “special” 17” steel wheel designed for the t32. Strangely, I happen to have a set for sale in the for sale section.

Is this for the ex-AA van?

Not all T32s are built on a 17” chassis. Some, like mine, are built on 16” and have the intermediate calipers that work with 16s - have you got your build sheet because that states 16 or 17” chassis. if you’ve got 16s on already, I can’t see why these wouldn’t fit. Width is less than mine, profile is less than mine and mine don’t rub. Load rating on the tyres is right for a T32, although not sure what happens with speed ratings for AT. What’s the load rating for the wheel itself? It needs to be something like 850kg / 875kg for a T32.

Someone more knowledgable will be along shortly, I’m sure.

Thanks for your input Chris.

Correct, for the ex AA build. 16s are on already so im sure there wont be an issue. I didnt know that about the calipers though, thank you :)

I dont have the build sheet unfortunately. It took me 4 weeks just to try and find out if the cambelt had been changed, I've got no chance with a build sheet ha ha

Definitely a major plus point of membership. I refer to it regularly.

I do know the visual difference between the calipers but that won’t help you unless you can get a front steelie off.

Not an issue with a vehicle that has less than 8 passenger seats according to the UK MOT Manual.

However tyres designed Not For Highway Use should have the following in order to get an UK MOT Pass.
That said best check with your insurer.

If 16 inch steels fit then 16 inch alloys will be fine
I have returned your build sheet via pm confirming 16 inch chassis

Hi all.

Hoping someone can help. I have a 2017 T6 DSG 110kw LWB

I’m running 19” wheels currently and it had Devonport 17” on originally.

I’ve seen some 16” wheels and winter tyres on eBay.

I’ve read somewhere that the minimum wheel size on some T6s are 17” because of calliper sizes.

How will I know if 16” will fit?

Thanks

Forgot to mention, the reason I need them is that I’m going to Germany/Austria for Christmas and winter tyres are a legal requirement so trying to do it in the most efficient way possible.

Can you post a picture of the calliper. Someone here will then be able to tell you what size it is.

Pete

No idea what is available in your 19" wheel size and loading but the best option is to fit All Season tyres and run them all year. You need to make sure they have the snowflake symbol on the sidewall to comply with German/Austrian requirements.
Thats what we are doing and it works well on my T32 LWB 4M. But we do live in the Highlands so maybe we get more use than you would. No complaints in the summer on All Seasons.
You will also want chains or snow socks, we have used snow socks as they are much lighter to carry and easier to fit.

Yeah, thought about that but my tyres are quite new and I struggled getting 19” tyres with the right load rating.

So I think wheels/tyres is the best route

Maybe the best way to know for sure is to check the size of your current spare wheel/tyre?

only T32 have bigger callipers. Unless you have upgraded callipers you can fit 16” no problem.
