T5.1 T32 Rear Springs Advice

Hi, i am after some advice if possible.

The wagon failed its MOT due to corroded rear springs.

Im not interested in lowering etc as i often drive over uneven ground so prefer to be at the standard height. Because it was originally a panel van, do i replace with the VW standard ones or as its now a camper is it best to go heavy duty with the additional weight of camper related things, bed, kitchen etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Depending on how much your van was down at the rear on the standard suspension definitely worth considering an up rated spring. I have a T6 /32 but I don’t imagine there’s a huge difference when it comes to rear springs. Like you I need to keep the ground clearance and after converting was down at the rear, rear arch gap from 470mm to 420, front 460 to 440. I had a cracked rear spring anyway so went for an Eibach/Bilstein 35mm lift kit adjustable at the rear. I left the rear adjusters on the lowest setting to see how it looked. This has got me back to an arch gap 470 rear 460 front and I still have 20mm lift available at the rear adjusters. From the numbers can see that stated 35 mm kit has on my van a bit more at the rear bit less at the front so clearly depends on individual vans. The ride is as comfortable as the oem suspension which I found absolutely fine so well happy.

Thanks for the reply. Seems theres more to think about than originally thought. I will continue investigating my own arch gap and see what it looks like. It doesnt look odd when looking at the van height
