T6.1 Highline number plate bulbs not working

Hi all, my T6.1 has just failed its MOT on rear numberplate lights. Both bulbs have been replaced (at £48 a pop, grr) to no joy. I can’t see any broken or linked cables nor can I see any obvious earth points.

Anyone any ideas?

I guess you just need to work through it logically

Do you have 12v on the cables in the tailgate (i suspect not)
Test for voltage between the positive core and chassis to see if you have a +ve supply
Test for continuity between the negative core and chassis to see if you have a -ve supply

Then you will know what direction to take your fault finding

Are they not the same as the crappy number plate lights on a t5.1 that always fail ? The terminals that the bulb pushes into rot or melt and then dont make a proper contact with the bulb .
