T6.1 Koni type

Hi all, 2 questions for the wise. I need to replace front dampers on my 2020 T6.1 SWB 4Motion due to leaks, multiple posts recommend Koni over the Bilstein but which part number works for standard replacement? I don’t want to lift or lower the van and would like to keep the standard springs. From my searches it appears that the Konis available in Australia are up to T6 only and I’m not sure how that goes with a T6.1 spring and seat. Any comments?

Also, regarding hoist lifting points: I have a 2 post hoist and would like to know what the correct lifting points are. Do I use the jacking points? Most cars you can find factory lifting drawings but VW seem a bit shy on most things that allow you to work on your own vehicle.

I’ve read through multiple threads regarding these items but still wondering, apologies if I’ve missed the correct articles

KONI do have the T6.1 shocks available now . its possible that Toperformance ( Aus importer ) haven't imported any yet . we could ship them to you VAT free , freight isnt as bad as you would think , we have sent a few down there .

I can give you the part numbers if you want to ask them, Toperformance are in Victoria , They only ship by sea container so the delays can be many months if they dont have them

I can prep a quote for you if you wish ??

Hi, if you could quote these for me would be great. Freight out of the UK has been good for items I’ve imported previously. Freight inside Australia is horrendous now so it may end up the same from UK to WA as Victoria to WA. We are in Albany, WA.

Thank you

Often when countries have high import costs ( VAT and Duties ) we send the goods with an under valued invoice , As long as its sensible its usually unchallenged at customs

Happy to go with what you have found to work. Let me know what your quote is so we can work out the details

I bought parts from Toyota America. I was using an American Forum had a problem parts in UK very expensive. Guy on the forum asked did I not know who he was. Every one else did. He was the head parts guy at Toyota America. He dispatched the parts which arrived in the UK the very next day air freight it was UK customs wanting there share asked the Toyota America Guy he said oh I forgot i should have sent the parts in a used box and another lower invoice. Anyway the parts came to me the next day and even with the Tax was only a small fraction of the UK price. This is probably over 20 years ago but the impression I had was just how much we are ripped of in the UK and it is not all down to Tax.

It’s the same when shipping from the continent to UK. I got a part sent and the seller proposed including an invoice at a significantly lower value

For what it is worth the TAX people are not stupid, they may let some things go, turn a bind eye, seemingly take little interest but cross them and eventually they will pounce and they have very extensive powers. I was listening to a BBC R4 program once, all about custom and excise and it was very evident that they had powers in excess of ordinary police and that was the claim that they made. Take using red diesel for instance. They do stop vehicle around here every now and then to dip tanks. They told stories of what they can do. Find Red in a vehicle, they can ask for receipts of all the fuel that one may have used over the years. If you have several vehicles or have owned several vehicles or any on your properties, they can ask for proof that every vehicle has paid fuel tax for entire collective mileage. Done several hundred thousand miles in a vehicle, they can just assume that it was fuel that had not tax paid even a used car one may need to actually prove fuel with revenue has been use for its entire mileage one would have to prove if it was used what the mileage was on purchase. Most people can not do any of that and they can and do ruin people who try to give them the runaround. Of course the program was meant as a frightener but not many people who do use Red Diesel or any other tax free vehicle fuel generally listen to BBC R4. It was a very interesting program and if they strip a vehicle down to its constituent parts they do not have to pay for any rebuild. It is just a pity that they do not take the same attitude towards the very wealthy Tax Dodgers, they usually negotiate a settlement.

Germany and france had a whale of a time when we were in the EU ( pre Brexit ) , they were sending goods flat out to uk with out vat , and there was no mechanism to pick this up and charge the duties and taxes , this seriously affected honest business in UK who had to charge VAT of course

Yes they are. They gave me a 7.5k tax rebate.

Twice.

Fortunately I'm honest.
They paid my wife's tax rebate out to Scammers and refused to pay her back , the documentation was so F-- ed up it had my address as the local library and this is normal apparently , i wouldn't mind but i cant read books , ha ha this forum is the most reading i do ha ha
