I’ve searched the forum, but don’t see anything to answer my latest question.

I’ve bought a Wolfbox G900 dashcam / rear view mirror. Research on here showed that I needed a bracket to go between the wolfbox mirror and the bracket on the screen. I’ve gone to fit the wolfbox and the bracket is completely different. IMG_9063.jpeg
I’ve never come across this before and seems to be a standard VW bracket. I can cobble these parts together in an OEM looking way, but…

here’s my question. One sensor will stay in the bracket on the screen. What will happen if I don’t connect the sensor that is in the original mirror?

TIA

So I attacked the mirror this afternoon. I’m very happy with the outcome so figured I’d do a ‘How to” for others.

The mirror housing is in 2 parts. The lower housing comes off first, then the upper housing. The mirror twists anti clockwise to remove. The top of the bracket needs to come away from the screen bracket slightly to rotate it. Once off, the front and rear mirror housing just pry apart with a small screwdriver. Here’s the inside.

I’ll need to merge the OEM bracket with the Wolfbox bracket.

I cut the ball off of the Wolfbox bracket and the shaft left was about 15mm (the silver part in the photo below.)
I also cut the ball off of the OEM bracket and was left with an unround hole between 14-15mm diameter. I used a file/dremmel to make the hole 15mm to suit the Wolfbox shaft.

Here’s the OEM bracket and the Wolfbox bracket araldited together.

Final thing, tomorrow I’ll run the wiring properly.

The sensor in the OEM windscreen bracket stayed connected. The wiring to the mirror (visible loose in final photo) was disconnected and the circuit board that’s in the mirror is currently in my workshop. The OEM mirror appears to have two sensors inside it; one sensor faces into the cab and, and one sensor faces the front of the vehicle. Unless an issue arises, I plan to leave the circuit board disconnected. I still don’t really know what it is for. I’m hoping it’s for the auto dim circuit only. I think worst case scenario is that the Auto lights don’t work, but it’s almost dark so I’ll test that tonight. If error codes appear, I could tuck the circuit board in the roof space.

All in all, a very simple adaptation. If anyone does know the exact purpose of the circuit board, it would be interesting to know.
