T6.1 tailgate open / close using key-fob??

Sorry very new to the world of the T6.1 so would be grateful if people can clear up the mystery that several dealers have caused me.

When initially looking for a van (brand new transporter/shuttle SE LWB) some dealers told me that the electric tail gate both opens and closes from the key fob, some have said it does neither and others have said it opens but doesn’t close.

I am really curious now to know what the truth is as this is going to impact how the van is used with my wife’s wheelchair.

it is a costed option. My T6.1 Kombi highline has tailgate and sliding door “power-latching” which basically soft closes the doors.
To get the tailgate to actually power-open / power-close by itself on a button press requires a costed option fitted at build or retrofit kit.

Yes, with existing power-closing, operating it via the key fob doable via VCDS coding AFAIK.

On T6 it is configurable function.

thanks for the replies folks. I was told that VCDS can’t be used anymore on cars built after September 2020, shame as I actually have the full blown version for my car.

The other trouble for us is that this is going to be a Motability car for my wife so we are not allowed to do anything that isn’t done by a dealer or a contractor that they approve of.

has anyone got a fairly new T6.1 that this feature has been enabled by the dealer please.

As far as I know, the standard factory functionality for electric tailgate is that it can be opened from the key fob but not closed. Also, just so you are aware, it will not open from the keyfob if there is any object even remotely close to it, even to the side (it uses the rear parking sensors to work this out).

VCDS does work on new models. There was an update a few weeks back there's some SFD functions it can't do but I've been to a well known camper conversion company today and enabled a few bits including rear speakers on a MiB3 unit. If it's coding I very much doubt the motibility company will know.

VCDS works with 2020 & 2021 VAG vehicles, T6.1 included.

No one including your dealer is going to notice if you change the values for 2 adaptation channels in your 6D module.

Thank you for all of your responses.

I quite like the idea of the sensors detecting anything in the way. The van although on the Motability scheme will go through a specialist conversion company who add a rear lift, so now that I know that people can code again on new vans I will let them know.

Robert please feel free to pm me any more specific details if you happen to know them
