T6.1 with Tow Bar Prep - Coding appears absent [Resolved]

Hi
Don't normally post stuff, however after some assistance, had a new t6.1 back in March with tow prep, just had a towbar and the electics fitted.
Now I have just contacted the local steelers VW @ Indian queens to enquire about having the van coded, only to be told that I needed a special code! Also it is likely to take between 1-2 hours at £95+vat an hour but only if I have the code, more if not, what the F@#k, anyone else come across this?
How easy is VCDS to use.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

Cheers Paul

Should be easy to do with VCDS. If you've never used VCDS, it can look like a minefield but it's quite basic.

Where abouts are you? I'm sure someone local would do it for a few beer tokens.

If your van has come from the factory with towbar prep then there is no coding to do. The module is already fitted and coded at the factory.

Mentioned this several times but the dealer is still saying it needs to be coded

My van has a factory towbar & electrics, I had to use VCDS to activate pin10 which is the ignition switched live, that was the only coding necessary & it was a single tick box on VCDS & a five minute job.

The dealer is wrong.
Very wrong! My fitter checked as a matter of courtesy and happily announced that everything had been coded properly and “No charge!”

Hook up a trailer or lighting board and check if it is all working….when you select reverse, are the sensors silenced but the camera activated? If you turn on your fog light, is the van fog light out but the lighting board lit?

OK just plugged in light board, reverse sensor still working, fog lights still come on so think it hasn't been coded

And you definitely have tow bar prep? If you post a pic of your build sticker under the steering wheel we'll be able to tell

I'd check the data sticker codes to see if the van was built with tow bar prep. It may have been fitted at the dealers prior to delivery.

Edit. @Deaky beat me to it.

Just decode the same 1D7 AHV Trailer hitch preparation, so it should be coded already? What's the best way to check?

I don’t understand that then, I have trailer prep and no coding was required. Are you sure the correct OEM wiring loom has been used and fitted correctly? The parking sensor plug needs to be de-pinned and some of the wires fitted into the tow bar loom

Fitted the westfalia tow prep loom and followed the wiring diagram, might need to recheck but I am sure it is correct

I'll take the panel off in the morning and take a picture just in case

Double check all the cable pairings including the one that’s just taped to one side
