Hi. New head unit fitted to my T6 2018 last November under extended warranty because original unit failed on CarPlay and screen stopped responding on longish journey, 100+ miles.
Now it happened again Yesterday. Unit was fairly warm. Stopped similar journey briefly to visit someone, got back in to find carplay wouldn’t work. unit said iPhone (SE) connection failed. Tried off and on etc, everything I could think of. Wouldn’t work rest of journey.
Tried today when van cold, carplay working!
Any help much appreciated.

Hi All

I have 2019 T6 With media unit Nav and CarPlay - it’s just stopped connecting to two different iPhones with plenty of cables tried - they charge via the usb so it’s not a problem with the USB.

Two questions
- any solutions
- what would the warranty be on this I can see their is an extended warranty mentioned in the above post we bought from a Vw main dealer as used approved in august 2020

Any advice welcomed

Have you tried rebooting it? Hold the power button down until you see the VW logo

Get a CarPlay2Air (or similar) and forget the wires, pay on a credit card so you can chargeback if you have any issues, but mine worked great for 3 years.

This appears to be the current equivalent and with Amazon you can return it no questions asked https://amzn.eu/d/btGJDUK

Thanks will try it my only minor concern is that suddenly the 12v cigarette lighter is no longer charging things on the move driving so now wondering if the two issues are connected in some way

I have a similar issue with mine....There are two suspect causes just not had chance to look yet....

1. I changed the battery for a new one - i did have jump leads on the van leads to maintain power during the change but perhaps this didnt work and something needs recoding?
2. Dont know how, but when moving some stuff around the cab on a camping trip, the end of the lightning cable which was plugged into the USB, made contact with the cig lighter socket and sparked.....Im sure it has been problematic since then, even though the carplay port does still charge the phone via USB.

When i plug any iPhone in, it asks if i want to connect then after a few seconds just says DISCONNECTED.....

Driving me mad!

Have you replaced the lightning cable? The short may have damaged it. Use a good Apple Certified cable.

I found that the lightning port on my iPhone had enough fluff embedded in it and compressed down by repeated use that the cable cannot have been seating properly. Although my headphones worked, and it seemed to charge by the cable when plugged into the van, the data connection had become very intermittent. Cleaning the fluff out carefully with a wooded toothpick/cocktail stick has resolved the issue for me.
