T6 CarPlay options?

Hi all, only my second post... I am picking up a 2019 T6 camper conversion tomorrow - it's a Highline spec but I don't think that it has Apple Carplay... what are my options to have this feature and are there any recommendations? I am not really fussed whether it is wired or wireless.

Depends on the head unit in the van. You might be able to get the OEM unit unlocked to enable carplay/android auto. This may also require the USB sockets in the dash to be changed. Alternatively you could replace the head unit with an aftermarket one that has carplay/android auto.

I think the Highline radio will have Apple CarPlay.

You’ll need to plug in the phone to the usb port near the gear lever

But beware, I have this and suffered very regular disconnections so swapped to a device which uses Bluetooth to usb which has proved very reliable

Only if it's been spec'd from the factory. It doesn't come as standard.

The Colour Composition in mine didn't! IIRC, somebody on here has posted a list of OEM head units that either had Android Auto / Car Play or could be hacked to do it. My solution was to get a Kenwood 8020 and use wireless Android Auto which hasn't failed to connect properly in the two years that I've had it installed.

Quick check you can do, if it has 3 buttons down each side then it will not have CarPlay, 4 buttons each side has the feature though it may need activation,

from factory they are not CarPlay, unless specced as mentioned by @Deaky

Yep. My T6 highline didn’t have CarPlay.

There are some cheap options such as the rcd 330, these have carplay and look OEM ( if you get the right model, I believe it is a VW part) . If you get one look for the one with an aux socket on the front.

You get what you pay for.. those rcd 330, will have car play, and work with your parking sensors and steering wheel.. but lock DAB. But at less than half the price of other popular aftermarket options.
