T6 Electric Side Steps
I am currently disabled myself and I am finding it harder for myself and my wife who now has Rheumatoid Arthritis to get into and out of our T6 T32 and I am thinking of getting either the Thule electric steps that are provided on Ex Disabled/Mobility vans or the full length electric automatic steps that are currently being sold by Pegasus in Bristol and by Van-Tech but they are not cheap at around over £900,
I know that there will be a lot of owners who buy the VW Transporter disabled vans to convert them into campers so its to them we are reaching out to see If we can source something to help us to continue to enjoy our T6 then we would be very grateful,
Preferably I would like to get a full length electric side steps that way we can use the twin side doors on our T6 for when we are out and about once this pandemic is over hopefully before we pop our clogs this is,
If you have something that might interest us them let us know and we will get back to you asap. Cheers

I've seen tailgate wheelchair lifts that have been removed from T6's before camper conversions.... but never seen second hand electric side steps... like the Pegasus ones...

Have you thought about full length running boards instead which would help getting in and out of the van and considerably cheaper...

Aluminium Side Steps

Good luck and i hope you find a solution which enables you to keep enjoying your T6

I really hope someone on this forum has what you are looking for.... I’m confident somebody in this ‘community’ will be able to help. Good luck!

Hi,
Yes That is a thought as it would save a lot of cost with virtually zero maintenance and I like the look of the ones in the link you sent me, We will see how it goes and I will give a fixed ones a thought Thanks

Hi Thanks for your comment and we apricate it and hopefully someone might be able to help us out, Best regards

I love the pegasis ones and it is on my list of to do's but as you say... not at all cheap for a set of steps. hope you get what you need and if you come across anything like the pegasis ones cheaper please let me know.
You could look at the electric motorhome ones, single step per door.

Hi there I think van tech do electric side steps there still around the £800 mark. But look nice and wide .

Yes I viewed them and I like the wide ones so we can get our full foot onto them for extra stability, I might be contacting them next week to see if they have any companies up here to fit them Thanks

hiya...not read everything as busy as...so apologies if i miss anything...but....
my t32 was higher than a high thing in highville....

what about...and this isnt for "chav purposes" but...why not fit some lowering springs...£100 on springs...someone to fit...
easier to get in and out surely...and will probably look and drive better...??

just a thought..apologies if missed something just saw beginning of thread x

Hi, Yes that was a thought as I had loan transporter (T30 combi I think) from VW when mine was in for some warranty work and I found it was lower and the ride was a lot smoother on the bumps, I would have love to be able to put air suspension on the van so I could lower it to the ground which would be excellent but again the costs are going up with that thought lol My T32 sits very high as its still like new with only 13K miles on the clock as it never carries any weight at all and in hindsight I could have went for a T30 but when we bought the van my wife was ok back then and we have even considered going back to the type of vehicle we had before this transporter which was a VW Caddy Maxi Life (Wheelchair accessible Vehicle WAV for short) so that we can get in it lol also what we love about this van is that it has all the extras on it from new which would have cost a fortune at that time. sigh we love this van

Perfect cheap answer is....
some second hand ‘sportline’ standard springs.. have fitted..
She wont be ‘on stilts’ anymore and will look and handle nicer and it wont cost much :)
Plus it must be far easier to get in and out of...

VW Transporter T5.1 standard suspension with Genuine Sportline 40mm springs – Car Suspension & Steering – Porthcawl | Facebook Marketplace these are t32 shocks also (fronts bolt onto hub instead of slide within... would fit the t6 fine....shocks you wouldnt use anyway... but nice to know been on same machine (ish)
I get what you mean as changing the springs down 40 or 50 mm would be better and that way it would save the hassle of the steps, If we went that way then I would like to go for the softer ride option as well as lowering so would that mean it will have to be the T30 spring set up, Just looked at H&R springs and they are cheap enough to buy and all I would need would be someone up here to change them over for me, I would care I used to be a garage owner and years ago I would have done them myself but health problems stop me now,

@Nev-D if you’re thinking of changing your springs (to go lower) for a softer ride, then I’m confident you’ll need new shocks too. Speak with Steve @CRS Performance.... he’s a suspension specialist and will be able to work with you to get the results you want
