Unless you're [literally] gold plating stuff or paying well over the top for it, is it even possible to spend £45K on just the conversion work (top end or otherwise)?
Well that's one of the reasons I joined the Forum, to find out what can be done, how best to do it, and what things cost. I don't doubt that I could get my van converted for less, and a whole lot less if I did a lot of the work myself. However, I want it finished before I'm too old to enjoy it, so paying someone else to do it is a must!
There's a wealth of great information on here including recommendations for firms that have done great work for members. There are also horror stories about how people have had bad experiences and encountered a whole heap of trouble because doing the conversion bit by bit leaves one (unscrupulous) firm wiggle room to point the finger of blame at an installer of a different part of the conversion. With this in mind I have decided to get the whole package done by one firm, leaving the liability squarely with them. My investigations so far indicate that my chosen firm have an excellent after sales service (it was the first thing I quizzed them over when we met at the NEC this year), and other customers I have spoken to since have backed this up.
As far as my inordinately expensive conversion is concerned, I'm happy to summarise the specification here so that people can tell me I'm being tucked up like a kipper. This is bound to happen I know, but please temper your response by acknowledging that I am prepared to pay a premium for:
a) having one firm do everything and the warranty this gives
b) that the cabinetry is unique to them and it's the thing that really sold the company to us.

So that's about £45k give or take - I'm probably going to add a few extras in before I'm finished.
After discussion with Steve at CRS, I'm not going to go down the Sportline springs route - he's convinced me that the Koni route is better so I'm going to let him weave his magic. I might do the same with the wheels depending upon what he recommends. I was originally thinking I'd move the OEM Devonport wheels/tyres on, but as it seems you only get what the tyres would cost to replace, I think I'll keep them as my winter wheels.
Right. I'll go and fetch my tin hat and await the incoming!! If you seasoned converters can see anything on this list that you think will cause me trouble in the long run, or any glaring omissions, please shout!
