My front wipers have stopped working. they started to go slow from time to time then I had a brick shatter my windscreen in the rain, 10 mins later the wipers gave up on me. Coincidentally.?? I’ve taken it to a garage who spent an hour having a look reporting all fuses are fine, stalk is fine and the motor is fine. Anyone have any ideas??

TIA

During the summer my wipers started to go very slow, getting worse over a few weeks. I removed the motor and found that the linkage was all free moving, so I changed the motor and they work fine now.

On my van the wiper motor struggles with a near dry windscreen, not surprising as the the wipers are long.
Could it be the added friction from a damaged windscreen? You didn’t mention if the screen has been replaced yet?

my polo had similar issue motor was fine it was seized linkage

This shouldn't be hard to diagnose, if the motor has the correct current supply when the wipers are switched on, which is easily tested, it's either a seized / partially seized linkage or a failing motor. I didn't even check my fuses as I couldn't see how a blown fuse could make my wipers work slowly.
Well that's how I approached my problem and the linkage operated fine by hand so it left only one culprit.
Edit; When the linkage is removed from the motor, the motor appears to work fine, which it would of course because there's no load on it. I'd be curious to know how the garage tested your motor.

Just tested for power I think

It's an easy DIY job, less than an hour's work.

I had this issue, wipers were working fine then stopped, stuck mid screen then would suddenly come back to life.

I replaced the motor and hey presto the problem is no more.
