Hi,
anyone have a set of original headlights that they're tripping over and want rid of? I'm looking to try the experiment of heating them up to remove the lenses before I get about taking my current ones out.
It might be a disaster so not really looking to pay much. Lenses must be unscratched/not cracked. The light bodies are not important.
In the south west would be ideal. I live in Weymouth and travel to Plymouth regularly.

Rare but not out of the question. If I can work it into a trip I’ll give you a shout. Thanks.

I’m in Exeter, just taken a pair off this week for upgrade, all intact, couple of very minor scratches on the IMG_3679.jpegIMG_3680.jpeg

Good luck getting the lenses off. I tried, the light bodies more or less melted and the glue was nowhere near letting go.

How did you try to do it? Did you have them in an oven or localised heat?

In the oven. I separated some Fabia ones at 100 degrees with the door open a bit. About 10 minutes and the lenses virtually fell off. No such luck with the T6 lights. It must be doable as companies do projector installations, so you might need to sacrifice your 'new' set for some trial an error.

It is doable. I used a heat gun and a lot of flat head screwdrivers and spent a lot of time and care. I've split many headlights off many different vehicles over the years and these are the hardest ones I've ever done, also the largest.

Good to know.
I was hoping to stick them in an oven at the relevant temp and make it “easy” like the man on the internet said.

I did a set of Toyota supra lights in the oven a good few years back ,pulled a chair up and sat twitching watching the oven like a hawk as it was an expensive mistake if I melted them ...lucky they turned out OK

Seen a few on YouTube done in a cardboard box with a hairdryer.

I know some guys who have industrial ovens for making motorcycle screens. I’m hoping to see if I can persuade them to help out.
