T6 heating system

I have been driving a T6 all over Europe for the Summer months, and will set off from Switzerland to Sicily over the Christmas period. Hopefully warm down there, but my question is what experience do others have in using the in car heater system? The handbook warns of carbon monoxide poisoning if you don't ventilate the van. Sounds pretty dire ! Has anyone had their heater on overnight, and lived to tell the tale ?

What heating system do you have ? are you referring to standard system providing heat from engine or did you chose an additional heating option
