T6 Oil sensor and Start/Stop fail - 2 month wait for garage

Not a great weekend, had two warnings come up on the dash of my 18 plate T6, the oil sensor and the Start/Stop both failed.

Now reading threads on this great forum it’s probably wiring breaks and sensor problems. Phoned my local VW garage and they can’t book it in until March 20th ??? Crazy.

I’m in North London, anyone know of an independent specialist?

Don’t feel happy driving it with the oil sensor error.

Cheers for any help.

Just use the dip stick to check the oil level.
The start stop may have failed as it's not getting an oil temperature reading from the oil sensor. There are lots of prerequisites that have to be met before the start stop becomes active, and if you do lots of shortish journeys, the start stop will never become active anyway.

@bluezie thanks. I’ve checked the oil level and that is fine, and there’s no contamination. Does the oil sensor just check the level ?

The oil sensor wire can become damaged, it is exposed for a short section under the van, it can become damaged particularly when the heat shield gets bent out of shape which can dislodge the cable and press on the cable sometimes damaging the cable or even disconnecting it at the connection, this can happen when you hit standing water which bends the under trays / heat shields etc. (Various threads on here regarding damage to under trays )

you would need to get under the van to check the cable (and heat guard)

assuming you have under trays fitted ? (You will have heat guards regardless) :

the oil sensor wire exits the rear of the engine area, roughly in the middle, it is clipped onto a silver bracket, roughly in line with the rear of the front wheel arches.
a couple of grainy photos which may help, the heat shields should be flat against the underside profiles of the van, certainly worth checking. You can see the wiring loom and VAG label.

the first photo it at the front behind the engine bay, the second is slightly further back

@Perfectos thanks. I was driving in heavy rain when it seems to start flashing. Thank you for the detailed description of where to find it and the possible cause, will check it out.

Hey T6jim - did you resolve this? I just turned van on thismorning and have the following - oil sensor error, acc error and stop/start disabled.

Be interesting to hear what was up with yours! I have roadside coming out to look but always like to hear other stories.

Yes got a decent Auto Electrician to sort it.
Just a break in the cable completely in two.
Think it may be a fox having a good old chew. £234 all in.

Have just had mine repaired by VW roadside. Was indeed foxes again

Auto electrician said only thing that seems to work is using cable ties like barbed wire (wrapping round cables and cutting so it’s spikes)

Everything like deterrents and chilli only lasts so long apparently

I had the same a month or so ago, the AA guy said foxes had been at the wiring. First I'd ever heard of foxes chewing on vehicle wiring.
