Tail lift back to standard advice/help

Hi,

I am looking to purchase the attached vw. The owner was disabled and as you can see from the pictures the van has the tail lift and a modified centre console that allowed the driver to drive the vehicle from the “joy stick”. Has anyone had any experience of removing the tail lift and putting back to standard?

I haven't done exactly what you're looking at doing but have removed a lewis reed conversion before which didn't cut into the standard floor and it was a massive job, they do a real good job of reinforcing and installing the lifts so can only imagine how much has gone into doing it with the floor being cut too. I'd imagine unless oyu can do the work yourself it would be cheaper to buy a standard van and go from there!

There was someone a year or so back that took one of these back to standard, was an awful lot of welding, think they took the floor and other parts from a breakers?

Yes - that was me! There is a full thread with pics on here if you search. It's a massive job. As stated above, the whole centre section of the van including inner wishbone mounts will have been chopped out and a new subframe welded in to accommodate the ramp. Fuel tank dropped by 150mm also which affects ground clearance. Then there's the elecs!
