Tailgate door hydraulics

Hi all,

I’ve fitted a metal panel across my rear window on my tailgate door for added security. Transporter 6.1

Problem is this has added weight and now it drops down a bit, the colder the weather the more it drops. Guessing that’s because the pressure inside drops as it gets colder like most things.

I’ve hit my head a few times but nothing bad. Other people have also hit their head. We tend to laugh it off. But today was no laughing matter, I’ve hit my my forehead square on, went dizzy and my teeth clattered ‍♂️as it had dropped down further as it’s cold.

Can you adjust the hydraulics is what I’m asking? If not I’ll remove and get a full black out tint.

Thanks. If anyone can recommend some struts they’ve fitted that’d be great. Just looked at vw ones are around £150 and aftermarket ones around £30?

I went for aftermarket ones, as you say around £30. From Vanstyle or THQ, I can't remember. Just be aware, your tailgate will spring up fast and be a bugger to pull down and close

Hi again, am I able to remove this strut bracket ? My new ones have come with some different ones, they look the same size ball but could be half a mill different.

The top ones I can take off as they have a nut, but these bottom ones don’t?

As in the ball joint, not the whole bracket.

Just been a ball ache. Ripped my finger open trying it to fit them, one of them snapped and the other one popped out and broke my rear light. All in the same day.

I’ve just had another go as they sent me a replacement, which was good from them.

I should have noticed it when I swapped them originally but considering It says on the description that it fits a 6.1 I had no reason too. The brackets which the ball joints go into are different as you can see, the vw ones curve back to suit the ball joint. I just swapped these two parts around and they definitely click in better now. So will see if they hold up !

I’m just having a moan tbh.
