Tailgate Glass Options / Sorage

My tailgate window was tinted with a dark peel which looks good but over the years has started to bubble.

With all the stuff in the van or bikes on the back, I rarely use the rear view mirror. As such, I'm exploring what options may exist to replace the glass. Clearly, I could just go a standard v.dark glass like for like but I wondered if there were any options that came with some storage built in. Like a glass window pod.

Any suggestions or ideas welcome.

Thanks

If you do not use your rear view you could consider a permanent rear view camera with own screen one that is not triggered by reverse gear and then set up something like a drop down awning or shower /toilet tent mosquito net what ever.

That sounds ideal for the camera, do you have a link to an example?

In an ideal world I would have a solid tailgate but that is now extremely expensive Vs replacing the glass.

I do use my mirrors frequently officer. I do feel however that it could be safer if a group or a single display screen could see a similar but better view. If they where arranged to obtain the best angles with the viewing screen say behind the instrument binnacle. I do wonder if internal placement of cameras might be on the inside. Certainly rear view easily done. Side cams if small could be place on the C pillars and get an even closer look at the road behind and to the side. I believe it would help safety and generality aid positioning and take less time because the head would not need to turn so far each time one could look ahead and just divert the eyes.

I am not trying to suggest that all mirrors be completely removed or unused but on the main I believe that a camera system could be better all round. One could even have a forward nearside camera for tight right hand bends on tight country roads but that may be taking things just a bit far and space and vision is at a premium over the dash. I experimented and too big a thing on the dash might not be the best perhaps replace rear view mirror with a wide screen mmmm. What do you and others think?

I have looked around and their are loads of possibilities for system . Multi view systems for trucks and campers and so on. I limit myself because I have little confidence in my ability for DIY these days so everything is possible for more advanced practitioners of Electro DIY.

I was looking for something simple for me but a wide range of kit is available, it just needs imagination on using the search wording and being prepared to ask different questions then other possibilities show up. Let us know what you decide on.

This is me as well!

I am not scared though so will happily tackle anything .... before having to call in a pal who is more handy than me.
