My 2004 T5 Caravelle tailgate is presenting an intermittent fault whereby the outside handle is not 'latching', however it opens from the inside fine.
Turns out a few twists and turns of the key.in teh tailgate lock solves it, and I can hear it click open, but obviously needs addressing. I stripped the tailgate panel and attempted to remove the locking mechanism (fiddly little job) and noticed that one of the two electrical connectors in the mechanism was corroded at the bottom (see picture).
I am hoping that I will be able to clean this corrosion with some suitable cleaner and a long cotton swab. Has anyone else had this issue, and did you manage to sort it. Hoping to save myself having to buy a whole new mechanism as it seems very tricky to replace.
