Tailgate to barn door conversion

Can this be done as per title. Really want barn doors but obviously have a tailgate set up, willing to swap with somebody if so with all the bits I have on mine, 74 plate candy white mint condition tailgate as only covered 57 miles so far.

I think it can be done, but its a massive job of work, not nearly as easy as going the other way.

There are reinforcing plates welded behind the panels to accept the hinges for the barn doors that are absent on tailgate models.

Same with tailgate.... There is an extra layer of steel across the top that the barn door doesn't have.

Will be a good swap, the tailgate is very sought after with the camper conversion people

There is a thread on here with a step by step to a swap over.

As above you need to look into adding steel at the hinges to stop cracking in future.

And I think the barn doors needs the holes and nuts fitting for the hinge hold open arms.

Have a look at my photos, behind the plates on each side with the three bolts is an opening for the check strap. Behind the damper mounting bracket is where the loom comes through for each door. Across the top is where the top catch locks in and same on the bottom.

I have gone from barn door to talegate. I’m not so sure it is as easy to go there other way.

@PhillH thanks I appreciate it.

Yeah for sure looks like it maybe a bigger job and maybe not totally possible without cutting some body work etc. it seems way out of my league to try to be honest and more then likely not cost effective as just swapping out the van to one with at similar spec.

No problem, have a look at your van to see what is there. There maybe blanks in place but I am not sure
